1 rabbit saw 6 elephants while going to the river. Every elephant saw 2 monkeys going towards the river. Every monkey holds 1 parrot in their hands.
How many animals are going towards the river???
Answer:
There is bit of ambiguity with this brain teaser, so there\'s no definitive answer unless you make some assumptions.
Did all the elephants see the same 2 monkeys? (assume yes)
Are the elephants themselves going towards the river? (assume no)
If so, the answer is 1 rabbit, 2 monkeys, and 2 parrots (one per monkey) = 5.

The statements that reference actual animals that could be going towards the river are written in past tense. The question is dealing with the present. We cannot determine how long ago any of these animals saw one another. This could be a year or more ago. The question asks how many are going towards the river. This question deals with the present. We cannot determine any of these animals are still going towards the river. The answer should be zero, not five.- David Davison (9 Apr 2020)
The question was....How many animals are going towards the river. Your answer is incorrect. The rabbit was going to the river, and the monkeys and parrots were going towards the river. So, the answer would be 4.

Going to and going towards are not the same. I can be going to one state or province as an example but not necessarily going towards it. The FACT is by stating that I’m going towards it would make that action more specific and in complete alignment with what the question is asking for. The rabbit is going to the river. The author could have used ‘’ towards the river“ for the rabbit but chose not to. Since the question asked clearly how many animals are going TOWARDS the river, this writes off the rabbit. Just working with the facts, not would could be.
